MMRC 3/15 Endurance Race Report
Great speed, but too many long pitstops.
We had our first Box-Stock Endurance race this weekend at Madison Mini RC and what fun we all had! Definitely a completely different style of racing and I might be hooked on this longer form racing. Partnered with Nate M., we didn’t put much time into strategy compared to others and I think it showed in our battery and charging game and perhaps costing us a win.
Clear signs of too many 80+ sec pitstops!
We elected to run with the Orions 750’s in the Kyosho MR-04 and in hindsight I would have prepped the 900’s for the first 2, perhaps 3 runs and switching to the 750’s towards the end. We didn’t fully anticipate charging times so will head into the May race with a much better pit and battery plan.
It also didn’t help that we had two very long 80+ second pitstops due to mechanical issues. The first was very early in and due to a motor wire wrapping around the motor pod and into the pinion. We also had a tough unfortunate break towards the end with a knuckle popping out of the steering rod just after our last pitstop. If we didn’t have those issues I feel the race would have been much tighter, possibly within a lap or two to the very end and that would have been very fun. Team Shake n Bake really had their battery game on point and they just made no mistakes. A well deserved win!
I can’t think of a better group of folks to race with and feel so lucky to have this space and these friends! We really had some great examples of sportsmanship, drivers stand communication, and lots of support across the club.
Thanks for reading and rock on!
